              Grille Corners or extensions:

A very useful deck option. Have a permanent parking spot for the grille.  Maintain full use of every inch of your deck and maintain clear traffic areas.  Also very safe as it keeps little children away from hot parts and isolated gas tanks.

                Built in benches:

Takes up much less space than patio chairs. Adds form and function to your deck. Great for parties or get togethers, but  be careful not to overdo as a little goes a long way.  Benches work out great in corners, or in conjunction with planters.

                            Lattice:

Dresses up many decks and gives a finished look.   Ideal for lower decks especially with even ground.  Not great on taller decks. Great for porches.  Vertical trim boards add strength and finish the look, also a great place to hide seams.

                                         Sun Trellis:

Many styles to work with.  Great for adding interest to your deck.  Also super for giving some shade to very sunny spots.  Many homeowners plant climbing vines nearby to add even more shade and beauty. Works great together with privacy walls and window pane panels

      Privacy walls:

The name says it all.  Great near hot tubs.  My favorite privacy walls start at the house about 6' high and steps down gradually.

                                    Stadium Stairs / Fan stairs:

Very cool!  Great transition between levels.  Makes for great seating as well. Fan stairs are very user friendly and provide exit in all directions.

                                                                 Stair landing:

Stair landings can break up long stair runs. Offering more safety and versatility as well as great looks! Landings can change the directions of the stairs or just act as a half way point.

          Lower level:

Adding another level works great to bring you down into the yard especially in sloping terrain. Having a plan for each level or a specific purpose is paramount. Be careful not to add too many levels and break up all the usable space. Notice also the grille corner on this upper deck, defining the upper deck's purpose in this design.

Rail choices:

Adding the correct rails to the design is critical. Notice here how the white vinyl rails contrast beautifully  the deep rich color of the ironwood flooring. Also to the right we have a rail with larger king posts also in vinyl. The kingposts dramatically enhance the effect of the white rail vs wood flooring, notice the ironwood is used on the caprail to tie the rails back to the floor visually. For more on rails and rail choices visit the rail page of the design studio.

             Planters:

Nice add on to decks. Many shapes and sizes possible to customize your deck further.  But remember the more planters the more work it is to keep them full of healthy plants in all seasons.  Basically divided into floor models and rail models.

Here is something cool! A planter bench combo. Although not for everyone, it's a real custom touch! Can be rather expensive and can take up a lot of space.
